Located on the Wellington waterfront, Te Papa is New Zealand’s national museum offering visitors a unique and authentic experience of this country’s treasures and stories. Getting to Te Papa

Te Papa is situated in Cable Street on Wellington's waterfront. Locate us on the map, and find out about transport by foot, bus, car, campervan, or taxi – including from Wellington’s airport and railway station.

By Foot

Te Papa lies within easy walking distance of the city’s railway station, major hotels, and central business district. We are easy to find if you head for the waterfront.


By Bus

Most Wellington buses travel along Courtenay Place, which is close to Te Papa, including those from the airport and railway station. Ask your driver for directions.
Tour buses drop off and pick up passengers at the Cable Street entrance and enjoy free parking.

By Car

When travelling south into the city, take the Aotea Quay exit from the Wellington motorway. Continue along Waterloo, Customhouse, and Jervois Quays, which lead directly into Cable Street. Once here, you’ll find very convenient parking.

By Taxi

A taxi stand is located outside Te Papa for Wellington Combined Taxis


From the Airport

You can catch a taxi or bus from the airport. If you’re driving:

  • turn left along Cobham Drive
  • turn right at the Evans Bay Parade lights and drive around the harbour and along Oriental Parade
  • turn right into Wakefield Street, right into Taranaki Street, and right into Cable Street.

From the Railway Station

From the railway station, take a bus or taxi to Te Papa – or walk along the waterfront in just 20 minutes.

Accomodation

Special accommodation rates are available for conference participants at the hotels listed below.

The special rates are only available through the online registration system. You can book accommodation when registering for the conference.

The room rate includes GST of 15%. Please note your credit card details are required to secure your reservation. You are not required to pay a deposit. Your hotel will charge the full amount of your stay upon check out.
